Friday came. With it, Mark Judson dressed for an orgy.

The first time I had seen him without a suit and tie. He wore a soft blue cashmere sports jacket, an open-collared shirt, snowy white, slacks cut with slash pockets in the western style. The cut of the trousers made him look slimly cowboyish. On his feet were boots that looked as though made of glove leather.

“My, aren’t we elegant tonight!” I said.

He grinned. “Keep working for you long enough, I might become the Beau Brummell of the seventies. Never owned a cashmere coat before in my life.”

“I love the way those slacks look on you,” I said. “Even though you’ve forced me to change my plans entirely.”

He was alarmed. “Now, listen, you can’t go as Alice!”

“I know. But I can do a better.”

I did a little better . . . and added a bit of prudent protection. A pants suit, quite plain, even rather mannish. But the fabric was soft enough to lay gently against my body.

Mark whistled softly. “I just don’t know about that outfit,” he murmured.

“Even with the wig?”

“Even with the wig.”

“I refuse to be upstaged by my escort,” I protested.

“All right,” he said dubiously. “But . . . we’d better take the back way out.”
